Physical | Traceability & Mapping |
Purpose
The Physical Logical Item Mapping Viewpoint specifies the realization of the System Domain Kinds by Physical Exchange Kinds.
Applicability
The Physical Internal Exchange Viewpoint supports the “Design Definition Process” activities of the INCOSE SYSTEMS ENGINEERING HANDBOOK 2023 [§2.3.5.5] and contributes to the artifacts “System Design Description” and “Tracability Mapping”.

Presentation
A Matrix featuring
- System Domain Kinds
- Physical Exchange Kinds
- Realization relation from Physical Exchange Kinds to System Domain Kinds
Stakeholder
Concern
- From which conceptual item (energy, material, information) is a physical item derived?
- Which logical elements are allocated to which physical elements?
Exposed Concepts
The Diagram shows the concepts exposed by the viewpoint, and related concepts if necessary.
The Table shows the concepts exposed by the viewpoint, and related concepts if necessary.
Concept | Documentation |
---|---|
realizing | Specifies the fact that a System Domain Kind is realized by Physical Exchange Kinds. |
Physical Exchange Kind | Specification for any kind of physical item (energy, material, information, etc.) to be exchanged on Physical Level. This is the realization of the specification made by System Domain Kinds. |
System Domain Kind | Specification for any kind of conceptual item (energy, material, information, etc.) to be exchanged on Functional or Logical Level. The System Domain Kind is agnostic to any realization on Physical Level. |
Realization of exposed Concepts
