O3_OSTA Operational State Viewpoint

Purpose

The viewpoint defines modes of operation for the prosed system (such as normal, on-road, degraded, war-time, maintenance, training etc.) which apply not only to the SOI but also to involved personnel. An operational mode defines a potential life-cycle selection for the SOI which has a relevant impact for the SOI’s stakeholder/users w.r.t. to the operations. [tbd]

Applicability

The Operational State Viewpoint supports the “Business or Mission Analysis Process” activities of the INCOSE SYSTEMS ENGINEERING HANDBOOK 2023 [§ 2.3.5.1] defining states/modes at an operational level (e.g., business or mission profile, and operational scenarios). The operational states/modes viewpoint contributes to Preliminary Life-cycle Concepts and the Business or mission analysis strategy.

Exposed Concepts

The Diagram shows the concepts exposed by the viewpoint, and related concepts if necessary.

The Table shows the concepts exposed by the viewpoint, and related concepts if necessary.

ConceptDocumentation
OPShasPreconditionOSESpecifies the fact that the Operational Process is only provided in distinct Operational States. The states ar a precondition for the Opeational Process to be able to perform.
OPShasPostconditionOSESpecifies the fact that a Operational Process can perform a particular set of transitions, possibly resulting in one of the related Operational States as a postcondition.
Operational StateDescribes a state (or mode) of on operational level.
OPbeeingInOSESpecifies that an Operational Perfomer can have certain states. Note: Of course an item is in only one distinct state at a certain time. The multiplicity means that an Item can have a set of possible states, and a state can be used to specify possible States for several operational performers.
Operational State TransitionDescribes an allowed transition between two states on operational level.
triggeringSpecifies that an Operational Triggering Event triggers an Operational State Transition
